New Dagger Nomad

With the warm weather rolling in, adventure is calling out our names. Here at Sunrift Adventures, paddling is one of our first loves, and as the summer season is arriving we are loving the New Nomad from Dagger. Below we have a quick and informative review from a good friend of Sunrift, Mark Miller, on the New Nomad.

“I recently taught a beginner kayaking clinic this weekend called Rapid Progression through Foothills Paddling club. This took place out on the Lower Green River in Saluda NC. Now this isn’t some crazy class V creek but actually a very easy smooth class 2 at best. It is a great place to introduce beginners to whitewater.

I paddled the New Nomad for this 2 day clinic and allowed others to give it a test spin as well. I will keep this write up brief and to the point. I currently paddle a Nomad 8.5 and have paddled it down many creeks and rivers including Tallulah Gorge, Green Narrows and of course our home town favorite West Fork and North Fork of the French Broad.

My first impression up front was that it felt like home just like my Nomad 8.5. However, I did like the volume of the boat since the New Nomad has more volume especially at the front. Now this did not effect the turning ration one bit and felt like it turn a little quicker going into eddies. When I say quicker I am talking about the rounded hull which produced sharp crisp turns.

The other advantage of this boat over the regular Nomad is the enhanced rocker and this was super awesome for effecting some magnificent boofs. This rocker really helps drive the bow of the boat up and over obstacles as we know in creeking there are a lot of rocks to dodge or run up on and BOOF……

The last thing I will mention in closing out is the speed of this boat over the normal Nomad. It is a faster boat for sure and again I attribute that to the enhanced rocker. Less drag on the bow means more speed. It is a great boat and if you love the Nomad you will love the New Nomad for the extras it has built into it.”
